If you are Moroccan or a resident
- Your national ID card (CNIE), valid, or your residence card.
- Your driving licence, valid.
- The deposit, paid the way the agency accepts (see our deposit guide).
The name on the licence must be the main driver’s. If someone else drives, they show their documents too and must be added to the contract.
If you are coming from abroad
- Your valid passport.
- Your national driving licence, the original.
- In some cases, an international driving permit (see below).
- The deposit.
A foreign licence lets you drive in Morocco during a tourist stay, generally for up to one year after you enter the country. Beyond that, residents need a Moroccan licence.
International driving permit: required or not?
Sources don’t all agree. Many agencies accept a licence in Latin script with a photo, without an international permit. But some authorities, such as the UK government, say one is required to drive in Morocco, and the police may ask for it at a check.
Our advice: if your licence is not in Latin script, get an international permit. Otherwise it is still a cheap precaution to get in your own country before you leave. It never replaces your licence: always show both.
Minimum age and years of licence
Each agency sets its own rules, most often 21 years old and at least one or two years of licence, sometimes more for larger cars. On Darivo, the minimum age and years of licence are shown on each car’s page, before you send anything.
Send your documents once
On Darivo you can have your profile verified: you send your ID and licence, Darivo checks them, and your next requests go out with a verified profile. You still bring the originals for the agency. It is in your account.
Frequently asked questions
Is a photo of my licence enough?
No. At handover the agency must see the original licence and ID. A copy can help prepare the file, not drive.
I have a provisional licence: can I rent?
Rarely, since agencies ask for a minimum number of years. Check the years required on the car’s page, and ask the agency in your request.
Does a second driver need to come to the handover?
Usually yes: they show their ID and licence to be added to the contract. A driver who isn’t on the contract isn’t covered.
